Michigan Reentry Success
79% of people released on parole do not return to prison within three years. Michigan’s latest data reports a 21.0% recidivism rate, the lowest in state history.
Michigan has one of the lowest recidivism rates in the nation. The state’s three-year recidivism rate has steadily declined over the past decade through investments in evidence-based programming, education, housing, employment assistance, and recovery services.
Michigan’s prison population has fallen by 36% since its 2007 peak, decreasing from 51,554 incarcerated individuals to approximately 32,778. This reflects both lower incarceration rates and improved reentry outcomes.
